Kuklik to efektowna, kępiasta bylina dorastająca od 25 do 75 cm. Kwiaty w zależności od gatunku, odmiany - o ciepłych, czarujących, subtelnych lub jaskrawych barwach (białe, żółte, pomarańczowe, różowe, czerwone w różnych odcieniach), niewielkie lub duże, pojedyncze, półpełne lub pełne, o gładkich lub pomarszczonych płatkach, pojawiają się od kwietnia do sierpnia.
